Privacy Policy - Folio
Last Updated: April 27, 2026
Introduction
Folio ("we," "our," or "us"), operated by LogicLine LLC, is committed to protecting your privacy. Folio is designed from the ground up to collect as little data as possible. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics SDK, and no advertising SDK. This Privacy Policy explains the limited data Folio handles, why, and how.
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not require an account or any sign-in.
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any contact information.
- We do not include third-party analytics SDKs (no Firebase Analytics, no Amplitude, no Mixpanel, no Segment).
- We do not include advertising or attribution SDKs (no Meta SDK, no Google AdMob, no AppsFlyer, no Adjust).
- We do not include third-party crash reporting SDKs (no Sentry, no Crashlytics, no Bugsnag).
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The following information is stored only on your device, in local app storage and / or SwiftData. It is never transmitted to our servers:
- Your selected medical specialties.
- Your Read Later list, Collections, and Saved Searches.
- Reading state for individual articles (e.g., last opened, marked as read).
- App preferences (theme, text size, sort order).
- Receipts for in-app purchases (managed by Apple StoreKit).
If you delete the app, this data is permanently removed.
Network Requests Folio Makes
Folio is a reader for openly available scientific metadata. To do its job, the app fetches data from the following sources. None of these requests include any personal identifier; they are anonymous queries for public scientific data.
- LogicLine's Folio backend (Supabase). Folio queries our backend for the day's pre-ranked feed of papers per specialty. Our backend logs standard server access logs (IP address, request path, timestamp) for security and debugging purposes only. We do not associate IP addresses with any user identity, do not build user profiles, and do not share these logs with third parties for advertising or analytics. Logs are rotated and deleted on a rolling basis.
- PubMed E-utilities (U.S. National Library of Medicine). Used to fetch article metadata and search results. NLM operates these services and their privacy practices apply.
- NIH iCite. Used to fetch Relative Citation Ratio (RCR) values for relevance scoring.
- Unpaywall. Used to detect Open Access status across published papers.
- Europe PMC. Used to fetch full-text JATS XML for Open Access articles.
- Crossref. Used to resolve DOIs and supplemental metadata.
- Publisher landing pages. When you tap to read a paywalled article, Folio opens the publisher URL in your in-app browser. The publisher's privacy practices then apply.
Subscription and In-App Purchases
If you subscribe to Folio Pro, the purchase is processed by Apple StoreKit. Folio receives only the purchase receipt — no payment information, no card numbers, no name. Apple's privacy policy applies to the transaction. We may use a subscription management service (such as RevenueCat) which receives only an anonymous app user identifier and the Apple receipt. No personal information is shared with the subscription management service.
Children's Privacy
Folio is rated 12+ and is intended for medical professionals, trainees, and adult readers. The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Medical Disclaimer
Folio is a reader for peer-reviewed medical literature. It is not a medical device. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Folio is not HIPAA-covered and is not intended for use with patient data. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for clinical decisions.
Data Security
- All network requests use TLS / SSL encryption.
- StoreKit receipts are validated through Apple's secure servers.
- Local data is stored using Apple's standard app sandbox protections.
Your Rights
Access: All data Folio holds about you is on your device and visible in the app.
Deletion: Delete the app from your device to remove all locally stored data.
Opt-out: You can stop using the app at any time. There is no account to close.
